Whether you spend a lot, a little or no money at all it is really the thought and effort that matter. The moms in your life want to know that you thought of them and took the time to get them something and/or plan something to make them feel special. A last minute card doesn't quite cut it, forethought is key.

Below are some options to buy for mom but if you want to opt for a more hands on approach, a special breakfast is always appreciated. I recommend The Pioneer Woman's Waffles with bacon and fruit. Two pointers, 1) if the kids want to make breakfast for mom, let them help, or if they are old enough, make it on their own. Just be sure to have something to serve "on the side" that will be delicious should mom have to exaggerate how the kids are master chefs; 2) be sure to clean up!! The last thing mom wants to do after enjoying her sweet breakfast is to face a mess in the kitchen.  Or book brunch at a great local spot so no one has to clean up! I have spoken to many moms and they always speak fondly of handmade gifts, like handmade cards or crafts. Another favorite is quality time together, whether it is a stroll in a park/garden, or a couple hours at a museum.

While I didn't include any jewelry below, it was mentioned by a few moms as being appreciated, along with spa days and fun tech gifts! But remember no matter what, take the opportunity to show mom your appreciation by putting some thought into making the day extra special for her.

A Special Vase

Food52 has a lovely selections of vases and crocks/pitchers that could pull double duty. I particularly love the beehive crocks (shown above) from Farmhouse Pottery. One of their handmade crocks or pitchers filled with a bunch of spring flowers would make a really sweet Mother's Day gift.

Vitamix - the Rolls Royce of blenders

I know that in general, an appliance does not make a good mother's day gift. However, Vitamix blenders are so amazing and so high end, and such a splurge that they make a special gift for anyone who loves to make smoothies or anything else in a blender.

True Botanicals

The products are non-toxic, smell divine (in a mild way that even pleases my sensitive nose) and really work. They are a true luxury, especially for moms who are often too busy taking care of everyone around them to take care of themselves. I don't really have the words to express how much I love this brand and how happy I am to have found it. They offer me a sense of nurishment and relaxation.

Bee Raw

Bee Raw makes amazing honey. I wish I could buy my favorite, Clover, by the barrel! They have honey flights and even honey/tea combos. They would make a "sweet" gift for any tea lover.

Yorkshire Gold Tea

My favorite everyday tea. (I read that Patrick Stewart is also a fan!) A wonderful upgrade from Lipton and Twinings and a relatively affordable luxury. A good cup of tea can help you relax, help you perk up and help you feel better when you are feeling under the weather. This tea, from Yorkshire, England, would be a nice treat for the black tea lover in your life.

One Touch Tea Maker

I have had this for years now and still love it. If you know someone who loves drinking tea, they need this tea maker. Especially moms as it can make more than one cup at a time and is automated to heat the water to the perfect temp, brew the tea for the perfect amount of time and then keep it warm! This means no more cold or abandoned cups of tea... as every tea loving mom is sadly familiar with.
