As you may have already read, I am in love with Iceland. Well, I am also in love with Icelandic horses. I have always loved horses, even as a child, and was enamored with Icelandic horses from first glance. My love grew each time I saw some grazing in a field or galloping after each other, or when a group kindly posed for us along the side of the road ultimately culminating with a few hours at Viking Horses where we got to hang with their horses for a while and then enjoy a truly delightful ride.

With so much to do and a few rainy days, we were only able to fit in horse riding toward the end of our trip. We found Viking Horses, which is only about a 20 minute drive out of Reykjavik. It was extremely well reviewed, has smaller tours and they invite you to stay after your horse ride to enjoy some local treats along with tea and coffee (hot chocolate too!) which sounded lovely. We booked our tour for the day we were leaving Reykjavik to spend a couple days at the Blue Lagoon relaxing after our days and days on the road before flying home. It worked out perfectly! We booked their afternoon tour, so we spent the morning popping into any shops we wanted to revisit, including the lovely Sandholt Bakery and checking out a couple new shops before departing Reykjavik to head to Viking Horses, and after our time there, it was an easy 45 minute drive to our hotel, The Retreat, at the Blue Lagoon.

More details to come soon in this amazing experience, but in case anyone is making decisions about their Iceland trip now I wanted to share at least this right away!
